Choreography, Production and Co-creation 2014 – 2002
  • 2014 – Wake – a Chamber Made Opera production commissioned by Limerick City of Culture. Conceived by (director) Maeve Stone and (writer) John Rogers, Choreography/Performer: Katherine O’Malley, Composition/Sound Designer/Performer: Tom Lane with Rory Grub and Fionnula Gygax, Dramaturg: Tamara Saulwick, Video Design: Christie Stott.

  • 2014 – BLANK CANVAS Intensive at Firkin Crane with Daragh Dukes (music).

  • 2013/2012 – Bursary – Research and Development – A self-directed studio practice supported by an Arts Council Dance Bursary Award 2012. Mentor: Liz Roche. In conversation with collaborators Liv O'Donghue, Fergus Byrne, Mark Linnane and Daragh Dukes.

  • 2011 – Taking Distance – Choreography Katherine O'Malley and Lisa McLoughlin, performed by six individuals of varying dance experience and background. Programmed alongside Liz Roche Company’s Fast Portraits at Siamsa Tire. Lighting design by Kevin Smith. Music by Even Ziporyn and John Zorn.

  • 2011 – Four Told – Choreographer, Dancer and Producer – Project Arts Centre. Co-choreographed, Produced and collaborated with Lisa McLoughlin, Rebecca Reilly and Emma O’Kane.

  • 2009 – The Show – Assistant Choreographer and Dancer. Choreographer – Rebecca Walter. Programmed as part of Tritik directed, choreographed & produced by Ríonach Ní Néill – Artistic Dir Ciotóg Dance Company.

  • 2005 – dancIN’ – Producer, Co-ordinator, Teacher and Performer with Liz Roche and Ella Clarke – at Ss ichael and Johns, Dublin – A day of dance; classes and performances in aid of UNICEF for the relief of children affected by the Tsunami Disaster Dec. 2004.

In January 2015 Katherine qualified as an Amatsu therapist with The Amatsu Therapy Association Ireland Ltd with Principle Denis Bartram and tutors David McCarthy and Sean Beakey. Amatsu Therapy originates in Japanesse philosophy and the study of natural body movement and is integrated into western science researched by Denis Bartram.

Over the six years as Associate Artist Katherine has explored many strands of her dance practice encompassing her performance, co-creative, teaching, and choreographic skills with a focus on preparing students/participants attending LRC class and workshops to understand and fully embody the dance style of the company.

 

Throughout her career Katherine has also worked as a guest teacher at University College Dublin, Dance Ireland, University Limerick Teaching MA program, both the BA and MA Contemporary programs at the Irish World Academy of Music and Dance, Firkin Crane, Galway Dance Project, Dance Theatre of Ireland, Sallynoggin College of Further Education, Irish Modern Dance Theatre, Cois Ceim Dance Theatre and assisting Liz Roche in her position of Choreographer in residence at the Irish World Academy of Music and Dance for the MA in Contemporary Dance Performance in University Limerick.
